People always ask why I did this series. It is not like most of my
work. Some of the origin might be from a "mid-life crisis" but
there are other reasons. I've always been attracted to images that combine
conflicting ideas. Here, the satyrs, creatures that represent our most
basic and natural impulses, are often shown in tamer situations. It's the
conflict between freedom and security.
Other reasons are: a lifelong fascination with mythology, the drawings
of Picasso and Matisse, and a desire to explore more imaginary
subjects.
